Explore what’s new in Digital Samba 628! This release brings powerful in-room upgrades, led by draw over screenshare, allowing live annotations with laser pointers, sticky notes and pens. We’ve also added recording bookmarks to mark and export key moments, short answer polls for open-ended feedback, the option to answer questions privately in Q&A, and enhanced participant list visibility with role-based controls.

Dashboard and API

New Features

  • Added a new “Recording bookmarks” room setting. When enabled, bookmarks can be added during active recordings to highlight important moments. Bookmarks can later be exported via the API only.
  • Added a new "See specific roles in participant list" permission, allowing control over which roles are shown in the participant list. Check more about permissions in our documentation.
  • Added support for "Short answer" free text responses in polls, along with the ability to export these responses through the dashboard and API.
  • Added a new permission, “Answer privately to questions in Q&A”, allowing questions to be answered privately so the reply is visible only to the original asker and moderators.

Fixed

  • Fixed an issue where session webhooks did not include externalRoomId. The field is now correctly returned in all webhook payloads.

In-Room

New Features

  • Added a new "Draw over screenshare" feature, enabling real-time annotations on live screen shares with the laser pointer, sticky notes, pen, and more.
  • Added a new "Short answer" poll type, allowing participants to freely type their own answers and making it possible to collect open-ended feedback instead of predefined choices.

  • Added in-room support for recording bookmarks. During an active recording, the menu now includes an "Add recording" bookmark option. Selecting it opens a modal where a label can be entered to mark the moment. Once added, the bookmark is saved with the recording and can later be used to export specific moments as video clips.

  • Added a new feature to answer privately to questions in Q&A, allowing answers to be shared only with the participants who asked and hidden from everyone else except moderators.
  • Added support for the new participant list visibility permission. The in-room experience now reads this permission and shows only the roles allowed for the current role, hiding all others automatically.

Digital Samba Free

  • Added manual start time editing when scheduling new meetings, with the time selector now using 15-minute intervals.
  • Added a confirmation email with an updated ICS file sent to the call creator whenever the date or time is changed, keeping calendar invites in sync.
